One old and one new

"'If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn't. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn't be. And what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?' Alice in Wonderland" - Lithograph pheasant brown and gold ink on Japanese mulberry paper. Imagery inspired by Alice in Wonderland quote about a nonsense world. The piece as a whole is meant to be reminiscent of a children's book page. The paper it is printed on is very thin like old book paper and the characters come from books like the Beatrix Potter series and Alice in Wonderland.

"Memento Mori" - Lithograph and water color. My most recent piece. Background is 2 layers of lithographed feathers in magenta and a lighter tint of magenta in reverse. Owls, tree, and clocks are pheasant brown and magenta.

some old things

Some old intaglio prints from my first print class:

"Breaking Free" - My first print! A dry-point etch on zinc. Black ink on bright white. Dry-point is an engraving using no acid. The lines are carved into the plate by hand rather than scraping away a resist and letting the acid remove the area to be inked.

"Shadow Rabbit" - Black ink on bright white. Some dry-point but mostly resist etching.

"Self-portrait" - Black ink on bright white. Soft ground technique using lace doilies and babies breath flowers. All other line-work done with resist etching.

"We Can't Get Back Here Anymore" - Black ink on bright white. Piece inspired by a photo of the Huey Long Pool Racquetball courts. The building was abandoned and now condemned and sealed off to the public. As a kid I learned to swim at the pool and as a teenager I revisited with a friend to see the graffiti inside once it stopped being used. The piece speaks to old memories of the building and how they can only be visited through photographs now that the building is closed. Line work was resist etched and aquatinted using spray paint on the plate. Light areas were burnished into the plate.

"Dusk" - Black ink on bright white, fawn, and grey. 4 different plates all resist etched. Lots and lots of lines. One of the biggest intaglios I've ever done.
